The authors investigate the asymptotic behavior of Hermite-Fejér interpolation polynomials \(H_ n(f,\cdot)\) for differentiable functions \(f\) whose derivatives are of bounded variation on \([-1,1]\). They show that for this class the convergence estimate can be expressed as \[ H_ n(f,x)=f(x)+\bigl[\sigma(1-x^ 2)^{1/2} T^ 2_ n(x)\log n\bigr]/\pi n+o(\log n/n), \] where \(\sigma=f'(x+)-f'(x-)\), which is asymptotically better as that for the class of continuous functions where one has \(o(1)\)-convergence only.
