Let \(S\) be a semigroup. We say that \(S\) is \((m,n)\)-commutative (\(m\) and \(n\) are positive integers) if for any elements \(x_ 1,\dots, x_{m+n}\) of \(S\) we have \(x_ 1 \dots x_ m x_{m+1} \dots x_{m+n} = x_{m+1} \dots x_{m+n} x_ 1 \dots x_ m\). By \(E\) we denote the set of all idempotents of \(S\). The main result of this paper is the following theorem: Let \(S\) be a semigroup such that \(E \neq \emptyset\) and \(S - SE\) is finite. Then \(S\) is \((m,n)\)-commutative for some \(m\) and \(n\) iff \(SE\) is a commutative ideal of \(S\). A semigroup \(S\) is called an \(n_{(2)}\)-permutable semigroup (\(2 \leq n\) is a positive integer) if for any \(n\)-tuple \((x_ 1,x_ 2,\dots,x_ n)\) of elements of \(S\) there is a positive integer \(m\) with \(m < n\) such that \(x_ 1 \dots x_ m x_{m+1} \dots x_ n = x_{m+1} \dots x_ n x_ 1 \dots x_ m\). Finally, the authors show that every finite \(n_{(2)}\)-permutable semigroup is \((t,r)\)-commutative for some positive integers \(t\) and \(r\).
