This addendum to the original paper [cf. ibid. 102, No. 1, 13-22 (1992; Zbl 0766.14025)] includes a piece of reference, namely the appendix of a paper by \textit{M. S. Narasimhan} and \textit{T. R. Ramadas} [``Factorisation of generalized theta functions. I'' preprints (1991-1992)], missing in the original paper and closely connected to the author's results. The addendum also contains some minor corrections.
