This paper describes an investigation of lattices of diffusively-coupled logistic maps. The author shows that such a lattice can display self- similar, period-doubling cascades to chaos with all the known stages of pattern formation. The lattice which the author investigates is discrete in space and time, and defined by \[ x_{n+1}(i) = F((1-\varepsilon)x_ n(i) + {\varepsilon\over 2}(x_ n(i+1)+x_ n(i-1))) \] where \(n\) is the discrete time, \(i\) is the lattice site, \(\varepsilon\) is the lattice coupling constant, and \(F\) is the logistic map, given by \[ F(x_ n) = x_{n+1} = 1-\alpha x^ 2_ n \] where \(\alpha\) is a constant. Periodic boundary conditions are assumed throughout.
