The discrete scalar iteration \[ x_{n+1} = f(x_ n,p),\quad n = 0,1,2\cdots \] where \(f\) is a continuous nonlinear function of \(x\) and \(p\) is considered as \(p\) varies slowly. A succession of period doubling bifurcations is shown using elementary concepts of poles, zeros and transfer functions. The author has engineering applications in mind.
