Calculations of the concentration parameters in a turbulent methane jet, prior to ignition, have been made and compared with experiments. The jet is isothermal, the methane is considered passive, and the mean and fluctuating levels of the scalar concentration are calculated. A differential Reynolds stress and scalar flux closure has been adopted to model the turbulent transport of concentration and momentum in the jet. Included in the Reynolds stress transport closure is a modeled transport equation for the intermittency factor. Modeled transport equations are solved for the turbulent stresses and concentration fluxes, the turbulence energy dissipation rate, and the mean square concentration fluctuations. Results are compared with existing experimental data.
