The authors introduce a new error estimator for the complex variable boundary element method (CVBEM). The CVBEM is a numerical technique so solve \(2D\) Laplace and Poisson equations which already possesses a unique error estimator based on the approximate boundary shape technique. The new alternative, based on Taylor series theory, provides a more robust guide to either ``\(h\)'' or ``\(p\)'' adaptive refinement procedures focussing on a better fit to the problem boundary conditions.
