A decoupled, finite-volume algorithm for solving viscoelastic flows has been presented. It has been applied to solve two-dimensional problems. It uses the primitive variable formulation, the location of the velocities, pressure and stresses on different staggered grids and a third order upwind scheme for the discretization of the constitutive equations. It has been shown that the method is robust, and viscoelastic effects are not filtered out as the mesh size decreases. The computations can be carried out on a PC equipped with a floating-point coprocessor. This algorithm can be extended to three-dimensional problems as well.
