The authors deal with the differential operator \((Gf)(t)=f'(t)-A(t)f(t)\), \(t\geq 0\) a.e., associated with the initial value problem \((Gf)(t)=g(t)\), \(f(0)\in L\) where \(L\) is a subspace of \(\mathbb{C}^ n\). Under natural assumptions they give a necessary and sufficient condition for the invertibility of \(G\), and study this problem in great detail by means of a projection \(P\) called dichotomy.
