    The author considers the Cauchy problem in \(\mathbb{R}^ N\times (0,\infty)\) for the parabolic system \[ u_ t- \Delta u^ m= u^ a v^ b,\quad v_ t- \Delta v^ \mu= u^ \alpha v^ \beta \] with \(m,\mu\geq 1\), \(a,\beta>1\) and \(b,\alpha\geq 0\). He investigates the minimal local regularity of the initial data needed to guarantee existence of local solutions, and gives conditions for \(N\), \(m\), \(a\), \(b\), \(\mu\), \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\), discriminating between existence and non-existence of nonnegative nontrivial global solutions.
