The purpose of the paper is to develop the mathematical tools being used in the spectral analysis/closest tree method for the reconstruction of evolutionary trees. The model works with trees and \(G\)-valued random variables with distributions, where \(G\) is a given finite Abelian group. The set of all distributions is called transition mechanism. For these mechanisms there are given some identities and invariants. The application of the model to the theory of Molecular Evolution is discussed.
