In a recent publication the second author and \textit{H. Türke} [Appl. Numer. Math. 5, 133-144 (1989; Zbl 0671.65074)] have presented an algebraic characterization of the A-stability of minimal Runge-Kutta methods (minimal methods are those, which have an irreducible stability function). The present article discusses the validity of the criterion for non-minimal Runge-Kutta methods.
