Though this paper does indeed exhibit ancient Chinese methods of solving linear systems, a further purpose is to observe that efforts to ``encapsulate complex mathematical concepts into concise notations'' are very old and that the results may be successful without much resembling modern ways of describing the same concepts. The methods described were all recorded by the first to third centuries A.D., and despite a dearth of records until the 13th century must have continued in use, because similar problems and solutions appear then. (Of course the methods under consideration are perfectly valid.)
