The projective space \({\mathbb{P}}_ 3\Gamma\) associated to the four- dimensional vector space \(\Gamma\) of sections of the Horrocks-Mumford vector bundle on \({\mathbb{P}}_ 4\) can be viewed as the moduli space of certain abelian surfaces. The degenerate ones are parametrized by the trisecant surface of a rational curve C in \({\mathbb{P}}_ 3\Gamma\) and the abelian surface corresponding to a point x of \({\mathbb{P}}_ 3\Gamma\) is a 4-fold cover of the \({\mathbb{P}}_ 2\) obtained by projection from x, which factors via a double cover branched over the projection of C. Several special families of these surfaces are explicitly constructed.
