Let X and Y be two closed subvarieties of \({\mathbb{P}}^ n\). One of the first attempt to study the role of an embedded component W of \(X\cap Y\) (i.e. a component of \(X\cap Y\) such that \(\dim (W)>\dim (X)+\dim (Y)-n)\) for the intersection theory of X with Y has been undertaken by Stückrad and Vogel [see \textit{J.Stückrad} and \textit{W. Vogel}, Beitr. Algebra Geom. 20, 215-224 (1985; Zbl 0631.14003) and 25, 177-184 (1987; Zbl 0633.14003)]. In this paper the author tries to analyze the method of Stückrad and Vogel from an algebraic point of view and to understand some examples of Lazarsfeld and Flenner in such a context.
