Products of finite nilpotent groups (Q1262944)

Let \(G=AB\) where \(A\), \(B\) are finite nilpotent groups and \({\mathbb{F}}^ a \)saturated formation. There is an \({\mathbb{F}}\)-projector \(D\) in \(G\) such that \(D=(D\cap A)(D\cap B)\); if furthermore \({\mathbb{F}}\) contains all nilpotent groups, we have \(A\cap B\subseteq D\). The order of the Fitting subgroup \(F(G)\) of \(G\) is at least \(| A|^{1/2}\), with stronger results if 2 is not the smallest prime dividing \(| A|\). Considerations on the p-subgroups of \(GL(n,q)\) and the extensions of nilpotent \(p'\)-groups by \(p\)-groups contained in \(GL(n,p)\) lead to these bounds.
