Characterizations of conditional expectation-type operators (Q1263061)

The paper contains a sufficient condition for averaging operators acting on some ideal of measurable functions to be conditional expectation operators. A description of positive order continuous projections on the same kind of spaces is also given. These projections are completely characterized in terms of weighted conditional expectation operators. The results above are used to obtain in the setting of ideals of measurable functions extensions of some properties already known in the particular setting of \(L^ p\)-spaces. It is also shown that contractive projections on Banach lattices with order continuous norm are, under some smoothness assumptions, positive.
