The automorphisms of two-dimensional linear groups over commutative rings (Q1263677)

Let R be a commutative ring such that 2, 3, and 5 are units. Under these assumptions the authors describe the automorphisms of the following two subgroups of the general linear group \(GL_ 2(R)\) over R: (1) the group \(E_ 2(R)\), generated by all elementary matrices \(\left( \begin{matrix} 1\\ 0\end{matrix} \begin{matrix} x\\ 1\end{matrix} \right)\) and \(\left( \begin{matrix} 1\\ x\end{matrix} \begin{matrix} 0\\ 1\end{matrix} \right)\); (2) the group \(GE_ 2(R)\), generated by \(E_ 2(R)\) and all diagonal matrices.
