The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the biunitary diagonalizability of a finite family of compact linear operators mapping a complex Hilbert space into another complex Hilbert space. This is a generalization of an earlier result of \textit{G. Sartori} [Phys. Lett. Ser. B 82, 255-259 (1979)] for families of complex square matrices.
