An analytical method of describing the distortion of an arbitrary waveform advecting in the presence of a linearly varying non-uniform velocity field is developed. The basic equation is the following continuity equation \(\delta \rho /\delta t+\delta (w\rho)/\delta x=0,\) where \(\rho\) is the density, w is the drift velocity, x is the position and t is the time. A fourth-order scheme with a uniform mesh in a non- uniform velocity field is used. Comparisons of the new algorithm are made with the exact solution of the square-wave test and with the linearly increasing velocity field which confirms good accuracy of the method presented.
