The equation of the dynamic linear Kirchhoff plate is discussed in the case of spacially dependent flexural rigidity coefficients. No damping is present. Clamped or simply supported conditions at the boundaries are considered. Several estimation problems based upon observation of displacements and velocities are formulated. An approximation theory is developed, which shows in two examples good agreement with test results.
