Let m be an even intger, \(\psi\) a Dirichlet character modulo m and put \(\psi_ 0=(\frac{\epsilon}{.})\psi\) where \(\epsilon =\psi (-1)\). The authors construct lifting maps from the space \(S_{2k}(m,\psi^ 2)\) of cusp forms of even integral weight 2k on \(\Gamma_ 0(m)\) and character \(\psi^ 2\) to the space \(S_{k+}(2m,\psi_ 0)\) consisting of cusp forms of weight \(k+\) on \(\Gamma_ 0(2m)\) and character \(\psi_ 0\) which are similar to the lifting maps from even integral weight to half- integral weight first constructed by \textit{T. Shintani} [Nagoya Math. J. 58, 83-126 (1975; Zbl 0316.10016)], and which are adjoint to the Shimura liftings with respect to the usual scalar products. Using a theorem of newforms and a ``multiplicity 1'' theorem due to the authors [J. Number Theory 34, No.2, 210-224 (1990)] they give a formula for the product \(c(m_ 1)\overline{c(m_ 2)}\) \((m_ 2\) squarefree) of two Fourier coefficients of a newform in \(S_{k+}(2m,1)\) in terms of certain cycle integrals of the corresponding newform in \(S_{2k}(m,1)\); this generalizes a result of the reviewer [Math. Ann. 271, 237-268 (1985; Zbl 0542.10018)]. The authors also give similar formulas for the Fourier coefficients of oldforms which are eigenoperators on forms of half-integral weight introduced by \textit{A. Pizer} [J. Algebra 83, 39-64 (1983; Zbl 0515.10020)].
