For a Hopf-algebra \(H\) with bijective antipode \(S\), the category \(^H_H\mathcal{YD}\) of Yetter-Drinfeld modules is a monoidal category with a braiding \(\Psi\). The authors are interested in pairs of objects (and subcategories) for which \(\Psi_{X,Y}\) is a symmetry. \(\Psi_{H,H}\) is a symmetry iff \(H\) is triangular (\(H\in{^H_H\mathcal{YD}}\) with ordinary multiplication). If \(M\in{^H_H\mathcal{YD}}\) is finite-dimensional, \(\Psi_{M,M}\) is a symmetry, characteristic \(k= 0\), and \(M\) satisfies the ``\(u\)-condition'', then \(M^{\otimes n}\) is a \(kS_n\)-module in two ways, by \(\Psi\) and by the vector space flip map, and these two representations of \(S_n\) are isomorphic. This fact is used to determine exterior powers of \(M\in{^H_H\mathcal{YD}}\) and to study determinants of endomorphisms of \(A\otimes M\) in \(^H_H\mathcal{YD}\).
