In a previous paper [Adv. Appl. Probab. 29, No. 4, 890-908 (1997; Zbl 0903.60007)] \textit{W. Weil} introduced the notion of \(k\)-th Blaschke section body \(B_kK\) (\(2 \leq k \leq n-1 \)) of a convex body \(K\) in \(\mathbf {E}^n\). This is a convex body whose surface area measure is obtained by integrating the surface area measures of the sections \(K\bigcap L\) over all \(k\)-dimensional flats \(L\). In the same way, by integrating the support function instead of the area, one obtains the support function of the mean section body of \(K\), defined by \textit{P. Goodey} and \textit{W. Weil} [Aequationes Math. 34, 64-77 (1987; Zbl 0633.52003)]. In this paper the authors introduce the notion of the \(k\)-th mean projection body of \(K\), say \(P_k K\), whose support function is the integral of the support functions of the projections of \(K\) over all the \(k\).-dimensional flats \(L\). Then they study some connections between these different ``averages'' and provide a Crofton-type formula for Blaschke sum. They also prove that a convex body is determined by its Blaschke section body \(B_k K\) if it is determined by \(P_k K\). Using this result, in conjunction with results of \textit{K. K. Spriestersbach} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 123, No. 3, 561-569 (1998; Zbl 0912.52004)], \textit{R. Schneider} [Math. Nachr. 79, 325-329 (1977; Zbl 0352.52003)] and \textit{P. Goodey} [Minkowski sums of projections of convex bodies; Mathematica (to appear)], they deduce the injectivity of \(B_k\) for \(k \geq n/2\) and a characterization of balls.
