The authors study the generation of grids on two-dimensional domains with given fixed boundary. They want their grids to be approximately orthogonal around the boundary and smooth in the whole domain. To this end they develop two algebraic grid generation methods. The data for the interpolation formulae are determined by more than one point along the boundary; in fact, the number of boundary points involved increases if the point of interest moves away from a boundary. The authors discuss several examples involving airfoils, bullets, turbine blades and internal flow regions.
