Let \(G\) be a totally disconnected and locally compact group. In the present paper the author develops the basic homological algebra of \(G\)-equivariant sheaves on locally compact spaces, including an equivariant version of Verdier duality. It turns out that certain functors and constructions do not correspond to their nonequivariant counterparts under the forgetful functor. However, the author also has a criterion which implies that certain notions actually do correspond. The author then gives a derived functor definition of delocalized equivariant homology, and he shows that it unifies and generalizes corresponding concepts of \textit{P. Baum} and \textit{A. Connes} [A fête of topology, Pap. Dedic. Itiro Tamura, 163-232 (1988; Zbl 0656.55005)] and of \textit{P. Baum, A. Connes}, and \textit{N. Higson} [Contemp. Math. 167, 241-291 (1994; Zbl 0830.46061)]. Finally he proves that his delocalized homology applied to a point and the trivial sheaf \(\mathbb C\) coincides with the cyclic homology of the Hecke algebra of \(G\). The latter generalizes the main results of \textit{N. Higson} and \textit{V. Nistor} [J. Funct. Anal. 141, No. 2, 466-495 (1996; Zbl 0921.46083)] and the author [J. Reine Angew. Math. 475, 39-54 (1996; Zbl 0849.22007)].
