The paper contains a boundary layer analysis for the flow and heat transfer in a viscoelastic second-order fluid on a continuous moving flat surface in a parallel free stream with uniform suction (or injection). Such a flow requires for its description a new class of boundary layer problems with solution substantially different from those for bulk uniform flow on a stationary flat surface of finite length. A stream function has been defined to transform the governing equations to the ordinary differential equations. Then a perturbation method has been used to obtain velocity and temperature profiles, and skin friction and heat transfer parameters for various values of surface mass transfer parameter and velocity ratio.
