\textit{O. Njåstad} [Pac. J. Math. 15, 961-970 (1965; Zbl 0137.41903)] introduced the concept of \(\alpha\)-open subsets of a topological space \((X,\tau)\). If \(A\subset X\) then \(A\) is defined to be \(\alpha\)-open if \(A \subset\text{int(cl(int} A))\). The complement of an \(\alpha\)-open subset is defined to be \(\alpha\)-closed. \textit{N. Levine} [Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 19, 89-96 (1970; Zbl 0231.54001)] defined \(A\) to be generalized closed \((g\)-closed) in \((X,\tau)\) if \(\text{cl} A\subset U\) whenever \(A \subset U\) and \(U\) is open. The complement of a \(g\)-closed subset is defined to be \(g\)-open. More recently, the authors of the paper under review have introduced the concepts of \(\alpha\)-generalized closed \((\alpha g\)-closed) subsets and generalized \(\alpha\)-closed \((g\alpha\)-closed) subsets. In this paper the authors extend these ideas to functions between topological spaces. The basic definitions are as follows. A function \(f:(X,\tau) \to(Y,\sigma)\) is called (i) \(\alpha\)-generalized closed if for each closed set \(F\) of \((X, \tau)\), \(f(F)\) is \(\alpha g\)-closed in \((Y,\sigma)\). (ii) generalized \(\alpha\)-closed if for each closed set \(F\) of \((X,\tau)\), \(f(F)\) is \(g\alpha\)-closed in \((Y,\sigma)\). The authors investigate the simple properties of such functions, for each example composition, restriction, products and invariants. They also consider four related weak separation properties.
