The authors study the polynomials \(P_n, Q_m\) and \(R_s\) (degrees \(n,m\) and \(s\) respectively), with \(P_n\) monic, that satisfy \[ E_{mns}(x):=P_n(x)e^{-2x}+Q_m(x)e^{-x}+R_s(x)=O(x^{n+m+s+2}),\quad x\rightarrow 0. \] These are the so called Latin polynomials or polynomials of type I from the theory of simultaneous Hermite-Padé approximation. The coefficients of these polynomials are known explicitly [cf. \textit{K. A. Driver}, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 65, No. 1-3, 125-134 (1995; Zbl 0849.41007)] and in this paper they are expressed in terms of terminating \({}_2F_1\) hypergeometric series. The polynomial \(Q_m\) is looked into for \(n=s\), leading to elegant formulae; for \(n\gg m\) it is approximately the Hermite polynomial \(H_m\), giving approximate information about its zeroes. Furthermore, the authors give -- with the aid of simple contour integral representations -- the asymptotic behaviour for the three sequences of polynomials for \(n\rightarrow\infty\) when \[ N=n+1,\;M=m+1,\;S=s+1\text{ with }M=\alpha N\;(\alpha>0),\;S=N. \] Finally some aspects of more refined uniform asymptotics are discussed and the plot of all zeros in the case \(n=s=40\), \(m=25\) is given.
