Let \(G\) be a connected real semisimple Lie group with finite center and maximal compact subgroup \(K,G=KAN\) its Iwasawa decomposition and \(M\) a centralizer of \(A\) in \(K\). A well-known Dirac operator inequality (Parthasarathy, 1972) for discrete representation series asserts that the length of the highest weight of the representations of the Lie algebra of \(K\) occurring in the Harish-Chandra module of an irreducible unitary representation of \(G\) must be at least the eigenvalue of the Casimir operator of the Lie algebra of \(G\). In the paper, an inequality for the infinitesimal characters of irreducible representations of \(M\) is introduced which resembles the above Dirac operator inequality in character and relates to the discrete series of \(G\) via a lowest \(K\)-type. In other words, it is shown that the ``length'' of the dominant \(M\)-type of the lowest \(K\)-type of the discrete series of \(G\) dominates all the other dominant \(M\)-types which appear in a Weyl group ``orbit'' of the lowest \(K\)-type. Finally, some questions concerning the introduced inequality are indicated.
