The author has considered and studied the problem of finding \(u\in H\) such that \[ 0\in A(u)- Tu+ g(w(u)- m(u)),\tag{1} \] where \(A\), \(T\), \(w\), \(g\), \(m\) are continuous mappings from a Hilbert space \(H\) into itself. Using the resolvent operator technique, it is shown that the problem (1) is equivalent to finding the fixed point of the problem \[ w(u)= m(u)+ P_u[w(u)- m(u)- \mu(A(u)- Tu)], \] where \(P_\mu\) is the resolvent operator. This fixed point formulation has been used to suggest a number of iterative methods for solving the generalized equations (1). For a special case of a maximal monotone operator \(g\), a formula to calculate the resolvent operator is derived. Remark. We note that if \(w= 0\), then problem (1) is not well-defined and consequently all the results of this paper are not true. However, the results continue to hold for \(w(u)+ m(u)\). A more general problem of the type: find \(u\in H\), \(w\in T(u)\), \(g\in A(u)\) such that \[ 0\in N(w,y)+ g(u), \] where \(T\), \(A\) are set-valued operators, has been studied by \textit{M. A. Noor} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 228, No. 1, 206-220 (1998)].
