The growth rate of subadditive functions \[ F(x,t+s)\leq F(x,t)+F(\phi_tx,s) \] on a compact metric space \(X\) with a semiflow \(\phi_t: X\to X\) is studied. The author introduces the quantity \[ GR^+(F):=\sup_{x\in X}\text{ with limits } \limsup_{t\to\infty} \tfrac 1t F(t,x) \] and proves that this maximal rate of growth of \(F\) on \(X\) coincides with the maximal rate of growth of \(F\) restricted to the minimal center of attraction \(ME(\phi)\) for the semiflow \(\phi\) on \(X\). It is also proved that his quantity \(GR^+(F)\) can be expressed in terms of ergodic measures on \(X\). The applications of the obtained results to Birkhoff sums, to characteristic exponents of linear skew-product semiflows on Banach bundles and to average Lyapunov exponents are also given.
