Let \(R\) be an artinian ring whose radical factor \(\overline R\) is an artinian algebra. Then \(R\) is called an artinian polynomial identity ring, or shortly, an artinian PI-ring. The author develops an approach to the study of \(R\)-modules based on the representation theory of artinian algebras. Suppose \(M\) is a finitely generated \(R\)-module. The author describes conditions under which \(M\) has finite length as \(\text{End} M\)-module (or, in other words, \(M\) is endofinite) similarly to those from his paper [Commun. Algebra 25, No. 6, 1933-1944 (1997; Zbl 0885.16010)]. Thus it is proved that such \(M\) is endofinite if and only if its transpose is endofinite, and \(M\) contained in a connected component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver is endofinite if and only if all elements of this component are endofinite.
