For a finite group \(G\) and for a fixed prime \(p\), the authors consider the subgroup \(H_p(G)\) which is the intersection of all the maximal subgroups of \(G\) which are not \(p\)-nilpotent. They obtain results relating the structure of \(G\) and \(H_p(G)\). For example, if \(p\) is odd and if \(G\) is not \(p\)-solvable, then \(H_p(G)=\Phi(G)\), while if \(G\) is \(p\)-supersolvable, then either \(H_p(G)\) is \(p\)-nilpotent, or it has a normal Sylow \(p\)-subgroup.
