The paper deals with the solvability of the problem \[ -\Delta u= \alpha u^+- \beta u^-+ g(x,u),\quad u\in H^1_0(\Omega), \] where \(u^+= \max\{u, 0\}\), \(u^-= u^+- u\); \(\alpha,\beta\in \mathbb{R}\) and \(g\) is a Carathéodory function with subcritical growth. Let \(\lambda_k\) be the eigenvalues of \((-\Delta, H^1_0(\Omega))\) and \(\Sigma\) be the Fuçik spectrum: \(\{(\mu,\nu)\in \mathbb{R}^2\); \(\exists u\in H^1_0(\Omega)\), \(u\neq 0\), \(-\Delta u= \mu u^+- \nu u^-\}\). Let \(G(x,s)= \int^s_0 g(x,t)dt\). The authors prove the existence of solutions assuming that: \(sg(x, s)- 2G(x,s)\to -\infty\), \(G(x,s)/s^2\to 0\) as \(| s|\to\infty\), uniformly for a.e. \(x\in\Omega\) such that \((\alpha,\beta)\) is \(\Sigma\)-connected to \((\lambda_k,\lambda_k)\) for some \(k\geq 2\), that is there exists \(d>0\) and a \(C^1\) function \(c:[0, 1]\to \mathbb{R}^2\) with \(c(0)= (\lambda_k,\lambda_k)\), \(c(1)= (\alpha,\beta)\) and \(\xi c([0, 1])\cap \Sigma= \emptyset\) for every \(\xi\in (1,1+d]\).
