The acoustic wave equation in even-dimensional space is studied. It is proven that if the speed of the acoustic wave is close to a constant, then it can be uniquely determined by the backscattering data. In some sense the author extends the result by \textit{P. Stefanov} and \textit{G. Uhlmann} [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 28, No. 5, 1191-1204 (1997; Zbl 0888.35129)] devoted to the three-dimensional space. This work is related to the classical paper by \textit{V. M. Adamyan}, [Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 10, No. 1, 1-8 (1976; Zbl 0367.35043)], where scattering theory for even-dimensional spaces has been developed.
