The \(q\)-analogues of the sine and cosine functions have been found by \textit{S. K. Suslov} [Methods Appl. Anal. 4, No. 1, 11-32 (1997; Zbl 0877.33008)] and, of course, they agree with those discovered earlier by \textit{M. E. H. Ismail} and \textit{R. Zhang} [Adv. Math. 109, No. 1, 1-33 (1994; Zbl 0838.33012)]. For these \(q\)-trigonometric functions the authors derive continuous orthogonality properties by a method based on a difference analogue of the second-order differential equation \(u''+ \omega^2u=0\) \((\omega\) constant) on a \(q\)-quadratic lattice. They also obtain some properties of the zeros of these \(q\)-trigonometric functions. Then they state the orthogonality property for the corresponding \(q\)-exponential function. Finally, they introduce \(q\)-analogues of the classical Fourier series, prove the completeness of the \(q\)-trigonometric system, and establish some elementary facts about the convergence of these \(q\)-Fourier series. Miscellaneous results and formulae concerning the \(q\)-trigonometric functions in question are also given. All the results obtained in this paper are very interesting and will facilitate the computations for a \(q\)-extension of Fourier analysis.
