    The group \(\mathbb{Z}/ 2^k\) acts on \(S^{2m-1}\) by multiplication with a primitive \(2^k\)th root of unity \(\zeta\). By \(f: S^{2m-1} @>\mathbb Z/p^k>> S^{2n-1}\) we mean an \(\mathbb{Z}/p^k\) equivariant map. The author defines \([ v_{p,k}(m)=\min\{n: \exists f: S^{2m-1}@>\mathbb Z/p^k>> S^{2n-1}\}]\). This number generalizes a similar invariant \(s_k(m)\) for \(p=2\). His main result is the following estimate for \(v_{p,k}(m)\): Let \(p\) be an odd prime. Then \(v_{p,2}=1\) and for \(m\geq 2\) we have \([\langle(m-2)/p \rangle +1 \leq v_{p,2} \leq \langle (m-2)/p\rangle +2\) for \(m \not\equiv 2\bmod p]\) \([ v_{p,2(m)}= (m-2)/p +2\) for \(m \equiv 2\bmod p ]\) with \(\langle x \rangle\) denoting the smallest integer \(\geq x\).
