The solutions \(f:\mathbb{R}^n\to \mathbb{R}^n\) of the equation \[ |\langle f(u)\mid f(v)\rangle|=|\langle u\mid v\rangle| \tag{WE} \] form the same set when (WE) is satisfied for all \(u,v\in \mathbb{R}^n\) as well as it does when (WE) holds for \(u\neq v\) (in \(\mathbb{R}^n\)) only. This is no longer true neither for mappings \(f: \mathbb{R}^n\to \mathbb{R}^k\), \(n\neq k\) nor in the case where \(f:V\to V\), \(V\) being an arbitrary (infinite-dimensional) inner product space. [For the Wigner equation (WE) cf. \textit{J. Rätz}, Aequationes Math. 52, No. 1-2, 1-9 (1996; Zbl 0860.39033)].
