A distributional analogue of the sum form functional equation \[ f(xy)+f(x(1-y))+f(y(1-x))+f((1-x)(1-y))=0, \] for all \(x,y\in (0,1)\), suggested by \textit{P. K. Sahoo}, [Am. Math. Mon. 102, No. 8, 741-742 (1995)] is given by the authors in the first part, and then this equation is solved within the domain of distributions, by differentiating them. Having enumerated some linear operators on \(\mathcal D\), the differentiation operator on \(\mathcal D'(I)\), the effect of differentiation is described. Section 4 of the paper depicts, the reformulation of the functional equation in the domain of distributions by employing operators \(\mathcal R^*\), \(\mathcal N^*\), \(\mathcal G^*\) and \(\mathcal W^*\), which are explained in Section 3 of this paper. Distributional analogue of the cited equation is given in the form \[ \mathcal R^*[F]+\mathcal N^*[F]+\mathcal G^*[F]+\mathcal W^*[F]=0 \] and its solution is given by \[ \mathcal R^*[F]+\mathcal G^*[F]=0. \] References given at the end of this paper exhibits the parallel work done during 1957-1996, and the source of inspiration to present this kind of solution.
