Let \(A= \mathbb{C}[x_1,x_2]\) be the complex commutative \(*\)-algebra of polynomials in the real variables \(x_1\), \(x_2\). The authors consider its representations as an \(*\)-algebra of unbounded operators on a complex Hilbert space. One such representation \(\pi\) is called integrable, if the spectral projections of the closures of the operators \(\pi(x_1)\), \(\pi(x_2)\) commute. The paper studies the structure of the nonintegrable representations. It is shown that these representations are ``complicated'', i.e., they contain as a part the representation of a free \(*\)-algebra with two selfadjoint generators.
