In an interesting and important paper [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 141, No. 2, 321-347 (1995; Zbl 0849.55022)], \textit{N. J. Kuhn} conjectures that when the cohomology of a space \(H^*(X;F_p)\) is a finitely-generated module over the mod \(p\) Steenrod algebra, then \(H^*(X;F_p)\) is an actually finite module over the Steenrod algebra. The present paper proves Kuhn's conjecture. In fact Kuhn showed that one needs only to show that certain modules are not realizable as the cohomology of spaces. The methods, which are slightly different for the case \(p\) odd rather than \(p=2\), use the author's book [Unstable modules over the Steenrod algebra and Sullivan's fixed point set conjecture (1994; Zbl 0871.55001)] and the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence. Editorial remark: As pointed out in the erratum [Invent. Math. 182, No. 2, 449--450 (2010; Zbl 1215.55007)], there is a gap for some cases that needed new methods to be fixed [cf. \textit{G. Gaudens} and \textit{L. Schwartz} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 63, No. 2, 763--772 (2013; Zbl 1333.55012)].
