An oval in a projective plane of order \(n\) is a set of \(n+1\) points, no three of which are collinear; a line is tangent if it intersects the oval in just one point; a point is an interior point if it lies on no tangents. Let \(G\) be a collineation group on a projective plane of odd order which fixes an oval \(\Omega\) and is transitive on the set of internal points of the oval. The main result: The order \(n\) is a prime power and either \(G\) is doubly transitive on \(\Omega\) and \(\Omega\) is a conic in a Desarguesian plane or \(G\) fixes a point \(X\) of \(\Omega\). In the latter case, if each involution in \(G\) is a homology, then either \(G\) is a one-dimensional semilinear affine group or \(G\) acts on \(\Omega-\{X\}\) as a sharply doubly transitive group arising from an irregular nearfield.
