The paper extends Gross' notion of \({\mathbb Z}\)-models to maximal integral forms \({\mathbf{G}}\) of an algebraic group \(G\). Further the maximal integral forms determined by the four Lie primitive maximal finite subgroups of \(G_2({\mathbb C})\) are shown to be unique. The concept of being a maximal integral form \({\mathbf {G}}\) of \(G\) is shared by all integral forms in the genus of \({\mathbf {G}}\). The paper generalizes Gross' mass formula for the genus of a given \({\mathbb Z}\)-model. For the finite Lie primitive subgroups of \(G_2\), some of the genera are completely enumerated.
