A twist knot is a double of the trivial knot, with a number \(n\) of half twists; twist knots constitute a special class of 2-bridge knots. The present paper reports on various properties and invariants of twist knots as invertibility, amphicheirality, genus, Seifert matrices, Alexander polynomials and the groups of the knots (most of these also known for general 2-bridge knots). Also, the fundamental groups and the homology of the 3-fold regular branched coverings are considered, and also irregular 3-fold branched coverings. (Some arguments in the paper from combinatorial group theory seem to be too ingenuous, e.g. the proof of Theorem 6).
