Let \(f\in L^2(0, 2\pi)\) be a \(2\pi\)-periodic function, and let \(f(x)\sim a_0/2 + \sum^{\infty}_{n=1} (a_n \cos nx + b_n \sin nx)\) be its Fourier series. The classical Plessner equivalence theorem states that the two conditions \(\sum^{\infty}_{n=1} (a_n^2 + b_n^2)\log n < \infty\) and \(\int_0^{2\pi}\int_0^{2\pi} [f(x+t) -f(x-t)]^2 t^{-1} dx dt < \infty\) are equivalent. Recently \textit{P. L. Ul'yanov} [Vestn. Mosk. Univ., Ser. I 1995, No. 1, 37-52 (1995; Zbl 0879.42006)] presented a new type of equivalence theorems replacing the function \(t^{-1}\) and the sequence \(\{ \log n \}\) by a more general function \(\alpha (t)\) and the sequence \(\tau (n)=\int_{2\pi/n}^{2\pi} \alpha (t) dt\), respectively. Using some of his results proved more than thirty years ago, the author extends Ul'yanov's results to more general equivalence theorems.
