The author proves the existence of weak solutions of the nonlinear degenerate parabolic initial-boundary value problem \[ {{\partial u}\over{\partial t}} - \sum_{i=1}^N D_iA_i(x,t,u,Du) + A_0(x,t,u,Du) = f(x,t)\quad\text{ in }\Omega\times(0,T), \] \[ u(x,0) = u_0(x)\quad \hbox{ in }\Omega, \] in the space \(L^p(0,T,W^{1,p}_0(v,\Omega))\), where \(\Omega \) is a smooth bounded domain in \(\mathbb R^N\), and \(W^{1,p}_0(v,\Omega)\) is a nonisotropically weighted Sobolev space with weight \(v=(v_1,\dots,v_N)\) related to the degeneracy of the coefficients \((A_1,\dots,A_N)\).
