Let \(G\) be a real Lie group with reductive Lie algebra \(\mathbf g\). Let \(G=KAN\) be an Iwasawa decomposition, \(\theta\) the Cartan involution fixing \(K\) and \(\overline{N}=\theta N\) the nilpotent subgroup ``opposite'' to \(N\). Let \(\kappa\) denote the projection from \(G\) onto the Iwasawa-\(K\) sending \(g\in G\) to its \(K\)-factor in the decomposition \(KAN\). Then the author proves that the image \(\kappa(\overline{N})\subseteq K\) is relatively compact. The crucial step is to prove the statement for semisimple connected \(G\) with noncompact \(K\) which means that \(G\) has infinite center.
