The dyadic Hardy space \(H^1\) and the Walsh system are investigated. A detailed study of this space and some applications in the Fourier analysis can be found in the book of \textit{F. Weisz} [``Martingale Hardy spaces and their applications in Fourier analysis'' (1994; Zbl 0796.60049)]. The authors prove two multiplier theorems; more exactly, they give a sufficient condition such that the multiplier operator is bounded from \(H^1\) to \(H^1\). The Sunouchi operator is defined by \(Tf:=(\sum_{n=0}^\infty (S_{2^n}f- \sigma_{2^n}f)^2)^{1/2}\) where \(S_n\) and \(\sigma_n\) denote the partial sums and the Fejér means of the Walsh-Fourier series of a function \(f\), respectively. \textit{P. Simon} [Acta Math. Hung. 46, 307-310 (1985; Zbl 0591.42019)] verified that the Sunouchi operator \(T\) is bounded from \(H^1\) to \(L^1\) and conjectured that \(T\) characterizes \(H^1\). In the paper under review the authors obtain the Sunouchi operator as a special multiplier operator and so they can show that \(T\) and its inverse are bounded from \(H^1\) to \(H^1\), in other words, \(T\) characterizes the space \(H^1\), indeed. Note that these theorems are extended to \(H^p\) \((0<p\leq 1)\) by \textit{P. Simon} [Acta Sci. Math. 64, No. 1-2, 183-200 (1998; following review)]. \textit{F. Weisz} [Acta Math. Hung. 72, No. 1-2, 121-152 (1996; Zbl 0858.42017)] proved that the two- parameter Sunouchi operator is bounded from the two-parameter dyadic Hardy space \(H^p\) to \(L^p\). \textit{P. Simon} [Colloq. Math. 77, No. 1, 9-31 (1998; Zbl 0908.42017)] obtained that the Sunouchi operator characterizes the \(H^p\) space also in the two-parameter case.
