The author proves that \(9\) is the minimal degree of the \(*\)-polynomial identities in symmetric variables satisfied by \(M_6(K,*)\), the \(6\times 6\) matrix algebra with symplectic involution over a field \(K\) of characteristic \(0\). In an earlier paper [Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 45, No. 2, 267-288 (1996; Zbl 0885.16016)] she showed that there are no such \(*\)-identities of degree \(8\). Now the proof is completed by presenting a degree \(n^2+3n/2\) \(*\)-identity in symmetric variables in \(M_{2n}(K,*)\) for any positive \(n\). The paper finishes with a conjecture on the minimal degree of some special \(*\)-identities satisfied by \(M_{2n}(K,*)\).
